Living Healthy

Sleep apnea occurs when soft tissues in the throat collapse during sleep and block the airway. This condition is characterized by interrupted breathing along with chronic, loud snoring. For very mild conditions of obstructive sleep apnea, mouth guards - similar to those used in sports - may be part of initial treatment. C-PAP, or continuous positive airway pressure, may be prescribed for patients with more severe cases.
